Ella Condon works within expanded and experimental forms from photography, video and installation to extend upon notions of light and time. The works reflect upon the evolution, degradation, and reformation of light though still, moving image and sound media. Materiality is central to the work and how materiality's content and meaning unfold over time.
Recent projects include Signals Received, Plimsoll Gallery UTAS (2016), video projections in Liverpool for Casula Powerhouse (2016), Unbound, Parramatta Artists Studios Sydney and Sawtooth ARI Launceston (2015), Light Year Manhattan Bridge (2015), Street Screen Australian Centre for Photography (2015), Island Salon Cockatoo Island Underbelly Arts Festival (2015). In 2014 she exhibited at Chasm Gallery Brooklyn, Manhattan Movement and Arts Centre New York, American Australian Alliance Dame Joan Sutherland Showcase New York, The Freedman Foundation Travelling Artist Scholarship Sydney, Casula Powerhouse Sydney, The Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Photography Award Brisbane, Contemporary's Contemporaries and Waverly Art Prize Sydney. Her work has been exhibited in a range of artist-run and regional galleries, screened at the Auckland Photographic Festival, Tyler School of Art Philadelphia, and Sydney Underground Film Festival. Her work and has been acquired by the Gold Coast City Art Gallery and Australia Council of the Arts.
Conference papers include 'Photographic Shift(s): Ubiquity vs Sublime' at The Society for Photographic Education with artists Magali Duzant, Matt Whitman and Professor James Ramer (chair), 'Sculpting with Light' at the Project Anywhere Conference, Parsons School of Design, New York 2014. She is a recipient of Australia Council for the Arts ArtStart Grant, National Association of Visual Artists Freedman Foundation Travelling Scholarship and American Australian Association Dame Joan Sutherland Fund.
Ella Condon has a Master of Fine Art by Research from Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney and Parsons, The New School for Design, New York. She is a recipient of the Australian Postgraduate Award, Fauvette Loureiro Memorial Artists Exchange Scholarship and National Association for the Visual Arts Australian Artists' Grant. She has a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Hons 1) from Sydney College of Arts, University of Sydney and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Distinction) from the College of Fine Arts, University of NSW.
