GLOSSARY of media art terms & tools

This page is a glossary of media art terms, mainly excerpts of video interviews conducted by dLux Media Arts staff with artists exhibiting in Scanlines; a survey exhibition of four decades of media art in Australia that toured nationally from February 2015 until 2017.

The glossary gives an understanding of common terms relating to media art practices and dialectics, and demonstrates media art tools: both historic and contemporary. It supports viewing of video interviews and studio tours with the artists exhibiting in the Scanlines exhibition, as well as a broader navigation of the scanlines online archive.

The glossary is part of a suite of education modules developed to pair with the Scanlines exhibition; including curriculum-linked lesson plans for the classroom, hands-on skills development workshops, extension activities and research topics. The education modules encourage students to use common technological tools within the context of the visual arts, and provide a conceptual understanding of media art practices contextualised within Australian art history.

Education modules can be accessed on the dLux MediaArts website, and are suitable for high school students, tertiary students and as a professional development aid for high school teachers.
