Born in the UK, Zina Kaye left her job as Editor of Boardroom Magazine in London to travel the world in 1991. She moved to Sydney in 1993 to study at the College of Fine Arts, UNSW.

In 1996 she graduated with honours and also received a Research & Development Grant from the Australian Network for Art and Technology. She joined the Riga Latvia based Exchange Network and in 1997, Exchange won the Golden Nica for Interactive Art at Prix Ars Electronica. 

In 1999 Zina won grants from the MEDIA programme of the European Union and the Australia Council for the Arts for Observatine, a remote-controlled surveillance aircraft, a smaller version of which subsequently flew at the Farnborough Artists Airshow, UK in 2004. In the same year she also had a major work at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image. The Line Ahead connected planes communicating in Melbourne Airport, to LED signs in the gallery.

She continues to practice as a media artist, and is currently a Director of the new media business, the House of Laudanum.
