Lauren Berkowitz is a Melbourne-based artist working with ephemeral materials and site specific installations. Her work focuses on themes of ecology and the environment, recycling found and natural materails into sculptural works that evoke Modernist art from the 1960s and '70s. In addition to her many exhibitions of sculpture and installation, Berkowitz has made a number of video works including The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters (1998), which explored the spaces of zoos and aquariums as the containment of dread, while Endoscope and Yarn (both 1998) explore architectural and factory space in similarly metaphoric terms.
