Brook Andrew is a visual artist of Wiradjuri and Scottish descent. His work challenges cultural and historical perceptions, using installation, photomedia, performance and video to comment on local and global issues regarding race, consumerism and history. He graduated from the University of Western Sydney with a Bachelor of Visual Arts in 1993 and earned his Master of Fine Art form the College of Fine Arts, University of NSW in 1999.
His work often deals with archival material. By co-opting the tools of advertising, the media, museums and Wiradjuri language and culture, his practice deals with the limitations imposed by power structures, historical amnesia, stereotyping and complicity. He was a recipient of the Australia Council ISCP residency, NYC in 2008–09, and won an Australia Council for the Arts Fellowship in 2001. In 2012 he was awarded a Sidney Myer Creative Fellowship.
