Ben Lang operates by exploiting the interactions of simple and repetitive processes as they culminate in complexity and variation. He is interested in systemic pattern emergence, juxtaposing the natural and the computational. He seeks correlations in structures that perpetuate across scales and contexts. Defining the initial conditions to set a chain of events in motion, he outsources results to uncertain encounters, observing how things land. He finds feedback loops bridge visualization and actualization; rules limit or constrain in order to construct; and arbitrary choices illuminate an unexplored determinacy. Ben Lang was awarded First Class Honours at Sydney College of Art in 2013. He has exhibited in various group shows in Sydney, was also the recipient of the 2013 Zelda Stedman Young Student Award.
