Two monitor installations 11:00 mins, 1980
These dual screen works aimed to contrast manipulated and unmanipulated imagery. The source imagery for Shared Shadow was filmed in a park in Rozelle, Sydney, utilising the shadow of the camera, tripod and operator (myself). The second screen shows an identical sequence in (rough) synchronisation with the first. It has however been colourised and fed though an asynchronous video device so that the image has heavy rolling geometric bars and diagonal lines through it.
Evidance contrasts this type of imagery (in this case the shadow is filmed from a child’s roundabout) with black and white reel-to-reel footage of a boy digging and dancing around a hole in the sand on Palm Beach, Sydney.
