My Dutch Newsreel

David Perry
1972

Landscape studies and the company of an old friend and her new husband, shot in Holland on a family visit, and reflected on in London and Sydney. He speaks of the distance and isolation of living in Australia and Australian's desire for travel. He speaks of the function of landscape in building and sustaining “the collective unconscious schema: a representation of what life's all about. … the basis of all cultures.” [from the video] Perry reworked the video in 1986 (This new version was awarded First Prize (Video Art), in the Australian Video Festival, 1987).
