Kinetic Light and Mirror Sculpture

Jeffrey Shaw
1978

With Theo Botschuijver.

This sculpture enabled beams of light to be dynamically moved over Genesis's entire stage as well as out into the auditorium. It was constituted by six large mirrors which were all pivoted on two axes respectively and could be rotated in all directions using computer-controlled servomotors. Suspended above the stage, these mirrors reflected beams of light from follow-spot projectors and during the performance were moved about according to programmed and improvised choreographies. In certain positions these mirrors also offered the audience aerial views of the musicians.
