Bush Mechanics has been happening for a long time. Yapa (Warlpiri people) travel long distances between communities and cars often break down. With no access to a mechanic or a spare parts shop, you have to use whatever you can find and hope that it gets you home. Out in the desert, cars have to be tough to survive, and nothing survives unless it is well maintained. Even if you go for a short drive, for example just for warlu (wood) you have to be careful and always tell someone where you are going. On the rough roads it’s suspension and tyres that are the first to go. After that it’s sure to be the radiator, cylinder heads, leaks in hoses and so the list goes on.
