As part of a series exploring intersections between avant-garde music and genre film, Valeriais informed by a ghostly ambience in Toru Takemitsu's soundtracks to the films Kwaidan and Woman in the Dunes. The compositional strategies and the use of improvisation in a studio-recording environment were informed by Luigi Nono's compositional practice in a La lontanza nostalgia utopica futura. With David Brown on electro acoustic guitar and Will Guthrie and Andrew Barrie on percussion.
