dLux MediaArts and Artereal Gallery have partnered to deliver IS THIS ART?, a special event celebrating emerging artists working in screen-based mediums. Now into its second year, this exciting quarterly event continues to grow as a critical platform to showcase the best new and daring video artwork by undergraduate, postgraduate students and recent graduates from around Australia, and to generate dialogue around emerging media art practices.
With a focus on artists using the single channel-screen as a view into selfhood, a host of different worlds and the medium itself, IS THIS ART? August 2015 presents new work by, SIMON BARE, ELLEN FORMBY, BROOKE CARLSON, JOSH HARLE, ROSE JURD, BEN RUSHTON, ANGUS WARE, DANIELLE ZORBAS and respected artist OWEN LEONG (represented by Artereal Gallery). Announcing the inaugural IS THIS ART? Emerging Writers' Program. For the first time, this event will see the exhibiting artists paired with emerging writers. The Program makes its debut with a limited edition catalogue featuring essays prepared by CHLOE WOLIFSON, MEGAN WILLOUGHBY AND CLAIRE DALGLEISH.
In accompaniment to the screening program, IS THIS ART? will now feature an ongoing conversation series. This event will feature a live discussion on collecting video art chaired by Tara Morelos, Director of dLux MediaArts and will feature SEAN MORRIS, art collector and Director of Square One Studios with DAVID ASHER BROOK, artist, musician and former participant in IS THIS ART? IS THIS ART? is curated by Alexandra Sutcliffe of dLux MediaArts and is an initiative of the Rozelle Contemporary Art Precinct (RCAP).
